By now, you should have assigned and graded several informal assessments. How have you been using the results of these assessments to improve how you teach and what students learn? What strategies has your CT suggested for providing students with guidance before they do the assignment to improve their performance? What about after the assignment?

  • Before students begin their informal assignment I make sure to briefly review the major concepts concerning the topic. I allow students to ask questions and make sure to clear up any misconceptions. During the informal assessment I make sure to walk around and glance at every student's piece of work. If they are doing it incorrectly I am able to ask them what they think they are doing wrong, and if a student is shy about asking a question in the beginning of the class this is usually the time when they are able to just ask in a more private manner. After the assignment I usually go over the answers class-wide. I have the students reveal their answers and explain them so as to promote peer learning.
